Bring on March Madness!

Gavin is getting ready to support our darling Spartans during March Madness. My Aunt Wendy got him started with a couple of onsies and bibs. Daniel's brother, Adam, made Gavin this wonderful blanket. Gavin is definitely already a Spartan fan. We don't need anything from Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, and definitely nothing from Michigan! Gavin is a baby and is easily confused, so we need to make sure that he knows the Spartans are the good guys. Anything else will be roasted on the barbecue. Consider this a warning! :)

Oh, we are just so cute! GO GREEN!!!

Toys!

Gavin had his 2 month appointment on March 9. He weighed 9 lbs. 15 oz. which placed him in the 10th percentile, on the small side even though all this kid seems to do is eat! He measured 23 in. and is in the 50th percentile for length. Perhaps he got tall and thin genes from my side of the family that I can only assume came from my dad and the tall part missed me. Gavin also had the pleasure of getting his two month shots, poor thing. He totally ate up the oral immunization, but wasn't too happy with the three needles. At least he got some cool camouflage band-aids!

We also had to fill out a developmental questionnaire and we realized that Gavin was behind in some areas because he wasn't given time to practice certain things. Truth be told, we didn't have a lot of toys for him because we didn't realize how much he needed them. We pulled out the toys that we did have and went to Target to buy more.

This is Gavin's favorite toy. It's small enough that he can grip and fit into his mouth. He also seems to like toys that play music.

My mom had been wanting us to get a mobile for Gavin's crib, but he didn't seem interested in the one over his pack n play until recently. We found one at Target that also has a picture projected on the top of the mobile and when Gavin gets older, the mobile can be removed and the picture will be projected on the wall. It also plays music, has nature sounds, and a heartbeat function, which I find a little creepy. We stick to using music.
I actually wish we had gotten one of these sooner. Now I can put Gavin in his crib while I take a shower and the mobile usually occupies him until I am done. No more rushing because I have a screaming baby. This thing is fantastic! Oh and it comes with a remote, so we can turn it on from bed at 4am and sometimes Gavin will just go back to sleep!
This blue pad was a gift from my Aunt Carol and Uncle Harv. It's actually a diaper bag/changing pad combo and is pretty neat. However, we've been using it for Gavin to play on and have some tummy time. It's much nicer than putting him on the hard and sometimes dirty floor. Thanks to his extra time playing on his tummy, he is getting really close to rolling over. He can twist his hips around, but struggles with his upper body. I'm sure that he will soon be rolling all over the place.

Gavin's First Lu'au and Uncle Adam Comes to Hawaii!

Daniel's brother, Adam, came to visit for a week. One of the things he wanted to do was go to a lu'au, so we took him to our favorite, Germaine's Lu'au. It was Gavin's first lu'au and I think the loud noise and lights were a little much for him.

Germaine's is right on the water and makes for beautiful pictures under the palm trees. I wonder if I can edit out that wooden pole behind us...

See that look from Daniel? I think he's contemplating another mai tai. We all paid $8 for the bigger drink glass and that was more than enough for me! I didn't even want to use my other drink tickets to get non-alcoholic drinks.

We made sure to bundle Gavin up, since it was a little windy. He has developed a fascination with his fist and it's usually his left fist. I wonder if he will be left handed... He usually sucks on his fist as a soothing technique. He is such a clever baby!

That pig they are pulling out of the ground is what we actually ate and it was tasty!

Before the screaming started when Gavin was still a happy baby. Aren't we cute?

It's a little blurry, but I wanted documented proof that Gavin went to a lu'au.

We also went to Bellows Beach, so the boys could boogie board. Gavin didn't want to be left on the beach, but I told him he needed to wait a few months before he could get in the water.

I think Daniel has been watching too many surfing movies, putting his board in the sand and surveying the waves...

Gavin enjoyed spending time with his Uncle Adam.

The boys caught some decent waves from what I could tell. Gavin and I stayed at a picnic table in the shade while the boys played.

Daniel and Adam also checked out Turtle Beach, so Adam could pay his respects to the sea turtles. The "guardians" put out a red rope perimeter around the sea turtles, so visitors don't get too close.

Random Announcements

There are a few things I have been thinking about that I thought I would mention on this blog, so hopefully it would be read en masse.

1. My dad will be setting up a college fund for Gavin soon. Instead of sending a gift during his first couple years of life, we would prefer it if people would contribute to his college fund. My parents will have information for how to do that or you can get the information from us.

2. If you want to buy clothes for Gavin, I suggest buying them for a size up instead of for the size he is now because he does grow so fast and we may not get full use out of them. We already have loads of clothes for 3-6 months, so 6-9 months is probably a good place to start. Always send a receipt! :)

3. A note on sizing: Gerber onsies seem to run a bit small. I actually prefer clothes from Carter's or the Just One Year by Carter's or Circo brands at Target. Carter's sizes are also different. If the size is 3 months, it's the equivalent to the size 0-3 months.

4. Gavin's feet are always cold, so I like him to wear sleepers that cover his feet. His hands are also freezing in the morning and I bought some sleepers that can fold over his hands at Old Navy, but we haven't used them yet.

5. I sent out some of the birth announcements already, but I only had 12. The new order is on its way to me, so if you talk to someone who hasn't received theirs yet, apologize for me and tell them to be patient.

Mahalo and lots of aloha!

Look at the 2 Month Old Baby!

Gavin is just getting so big! I have a bunch of clothes the next size up and I can't wait for him to fit into them. He has his two month well baby check up next week, so we can see how big he really is. Gavin has become a lot more aware of his surroundings, it seems. If the TV is on, he will try to focus in that direction although I'm sure it just looks like flashing lights at this point. He has also started to pay more attention to the mobile above his pack n play. My mom wants us to get a mobile for his crib, so we might go to Babies R Us soon and look for one that kind of matches his bedding. Gavin will also stand on our laps with support, of course, and jiggles around like he's dancing. The other day, Daniel held him up and Gavin kind of walked across the floor. I also think he might be getting close to rolling over on his own, mostly because he pushes and kicks so hard against the bed or changing table when he is unhappy. I even got Gavin to look that the camera for most of these pictures.

In other news, Daniel is working at applying for grad school. Once he is done and gets accepted somewhere he likes, we will finally be able to make our next move. It looks as though Colorado has become a contender. It's a place neither of us has lived before, so I am excited at the possibility of living in another state again. We're also going to be doing a lot of painting and such on our house in the next two weeks. We really need to get it ready to list and have been putting things off for far too long. Things are really going to start moving quickly for these next few months. I better buckle up and hold on!

Birth Announcements

So I haven't sent out Gavin's birth announcements yet. I have been procrastinating and finally got the labels printed yesterday. I start to put labels on envelopes when I realize that I only ordered 12 announcements! I am so angry! I knew the box was small, but I didn't pay much attention to it. I must have missed the quantity selection window or something. Grrrr... Now I am really behind!
